Junagadh is a city and the administrative centre of the Junagadh district in the Indian state of Gujarat. It is the seventh biggest city in the state and is located at the foot of the Girnar hills, 355 kilometres southwest of Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar (the state capital).

After a brief conflict with Pakistan, Junagadh opted to join India in a referendum conducted on February 20, 1948. It was formerly a part of the Saurashtra state and, subsequently, the Bombay state. As a result of the Maha Gujarat movement, it became a part of the newly constituted Gujarat state in 1960.
